Here is a segment from my presentation in Livingston, MT for the International Migratory Bird Day Festival. I am discussing Brown-headed Cowbird nest parasitism in relation to my larger topic of Birds, Habitat & Conservation.

American White Pelican with an ill-fated fish Yesterday afternoon, Non-birding Vida and I went to the Cherry River Fishing Access for little sun-soaking and birding, and we, or better said I had several, firsts of the year. A Yellow Warbler was singing in the willows to the west of the ponds and a very tired acting Brown-headed Cowbird lingered near the parking lot. I managed a few shots of the cowbird.

After shooting way too many images of American White Pelicans (they’re still cool, though), I finally got an image of pelican swallowing a fish. The kicker is that this one was totally by chance.

A side note, an Orange-crowned Warbler was in my back yard – a new yard for me.

Yesterday as I was riding home from a client’s location, I did a little birding from the bike. I was able to see displaying Brown-headed Cowbirds and Brewer’s Blackbirds. The most unique sighting of the day was a an almost completely black Red-tailed Hawk. The tail showed just a hint of red shading.

In another note, the Costa Rica trip seems like it is a go. I’m getting super excited about a return to CR. I have begun to generate a target list using my local copy of WilderTrack. As a side note, WilderTrack is nearing release as soon as I get the database on the server and some business things lined out.
